5 Sensory Shifts for a Comfortable Home Design That Restores You with Eden Lane Interiors. Embrace timeless interiors that create a serene environment, allowing your home to become a sanctuary of comfort and tranquility.

Does this sound familiar?

Something’s off: You walk into your living room and feel... flat. It's comfortable enough, but it doesn't feel welcoming or make you want to curl up with a good book. Something's missing, you just can't figure out what.

The clutter is getting to you: The hallway’s already a war zone by 7am — school bags, trainers, someone’s forgotten jumper. The kitchen counter’s doing its usual thing: keys, chargers, post you meant to open last week. And that beautiful bedroom chair you were so excited about? You can’t even see it anymore. It’s been under a pile of clothes since spring.

Your bedroom doesn’t feel like you: You've tried adding a bedspread and a cushion or two. You re-painted it white hoping to make it feel brighter but now it just feels a little cold and you don’t look forward to going to bed at night.

You’re not imagining it.

Your home is constantly speaking to your nervous system and right now, it’s saying: "I can’t fully relax here".

Studies have shown that interior decor can have a significant impact on our wellbeing. Soft colours like greens and blues can help to lower heart rate and blood pressure whilst exposure to natural materials like wood or linen can reduce mental fatigue and improve mood.

What if your home could actually restore you instead?

Imagine walking through your front door after a long day and immediately feeling your shoulders drop. The lighting is warm and welcoming. The textures around you are soft and inviting. It smells fresh and comforting. There's a cosy corner that's calling your name, and when you sit down with your cup of tea, you notice how good it feels to pause for a moment.

This isn't about creating an Instagram-perfect showroom, following trends or buying expensive things. It’s about simple shifts that make your home feel better to live in, every single day.

Hi, I'm Caroline

Founder of Eden Lane Interiors, Surrey-based interior designer, and someone who knows exactly how much your home can affect how you feel.

In 2020, we moved to a new home and like so many of us, I was juggling lockdown, a full-time job and childcare. My anxiety (which I’d manage to get under control) skyrocketed.

I was (& still I’m) very lucky to have my home...but anxiety isn’t always rational. Spending so much time inside during lockdown made me feel trapped and everything grated on me.Too many white walls & harsh lighting. No personality. Rooms used as dumping grounds and a mishmash of furniture from our previous homes.

That’s when I realised how much my surroundings were affecting how I felt.

That feeling, like my home was working against me, sent me down a new path. I signed up for an interior design course. I had no idea back then that it would turn into a business...I just needed to make a change.

Decorating my own home helped me through that particularly anxious time. Adding calming colours, soothing textures & natural materials, injecting some personality...it all had a positive impact on my wellbeing. This sparked a real passion to help others fall in love with their home…by designing for real life and how my clients want to feel.

Your home doesn’t need to be perfect.
But it does need to support you.

That’s what this guide will help you start doing.
